Energy Generation

Biomass from RDF

Refuse-derived fuel (RDF) burned to raise steam that drives turbines for electricity.

1. RDF production

The combustible product from the RDF unit is used as fuel in the biomass power plant.

2. Combustion

Burning the RDF raises high-temperature, high-pressure steam.

3. Electricity

The steam is converted into electricity by turbine systems.

What is RDF?

Refuse-derived fuel (RDF)

The combustible fraction recovered from mixed municipal solid waste (MSW) is called refuse-derived fuel, or simply “RDF”.

Preparation

RDF preparation steps

Size screening

Size screening

Waste is separated by particle size and shape, making material handling easier.

Magnetic separation

Magnetic separation

Magnetically susceptible material is extracted with magnetic force — metal particles are not suitable for RDF.

Shredding

Shredding

Large volumes of solid waste are crushed and cut into smaller pieces.
