Protecting equipment from H₂S

One method used to prevent damage from hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) in biogas to the process and its equipment is chemical washing of the biogas.

Unlike chemical systems, in biological desulfurization the biogas never contacts any chemical: hydrogen sulfide is removed by a special bacterial species that grows in the tower and clings to the packing surfaces.

Chemical washing

Biogas is scrubbed with a chemical solution.

H₂S removed by bacteria, with no chemical contact.
